So as we are all trying to find our sense of balance amongst all the frenzy playing out in the media, I am reminded by my dear friend, Jennifer that we must look for the silver lining. Yesterday, as I zoomed into her yoga class, her dharma talk was on what we can do to find a silver lining in this time of upheaval to our day to day. She talked about creating a list of all the positive things that have come out of this. She talked about her husband cleaning as one. As practice ended, I began to make my own list. One item on my list was that I had time to clean my yoga mat and today was going to be the day.

There is nothing simpler to make than your own yoga sanitizing spray. All you need are 5 ingredients including the bottle. My go to place is Whole Foods. but you can also find these ingredients in our homes, our local pharmacy or Amazon.
DIY Yoga Mat Spray
Things you will need:
Small Spray Bottle - if you can only find a large one, just add less.
Spring Water or water from a filter such as Brita or your Refrigerator
Witch Hazel - great to use an astringent on the face when done
Tea Tree Essential Oil
Essential Oils of your choice: eucalyptus, lemon grass, lavender, lemon or whatever you have in your house.
Preparation:
Fill Spray Bottle 3/4 high with water
Fill Spray Bottle 1/4 high with Witch Hazel
Add about 4-6 drops equal parts tea tree oil (disinfectant) and your choice of essential oil
Shake it up and spray.
Remember to clean your mat in small sections and use a towel instead of a paper towel so you can wash and reuse. Let mat dry for about 20 minutes before you practice.
Make yourself this small DIY project and feel so good about how you are protecting your mind, body and spirit. Maintaining a healthy and sanitary place to practice is so important today more than ever.
Give yourself a pause and lie down on your back, close your eyes and become aware of your breathing even for 5 minutes. You will be so happy you did!
Hope to see you on the mat soon
